What is Autism?

Autism is a serious developmental disorder that impacts and/or impairs a person’s ability to communicate. The range and severity of symptoms varies widely among those with the disorder. Common symptoms of the disorder include difficulty with communication, difficulty with social interactions, obsessive interests, and repetitive behaviors. Early recognition and evaluation are key! After evaluation finding the right combo of behavioral, educational, and family therapy can reduce symptoms and establish lifelong routines for support and learning.

#World Autism Awareness Day

#World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day on April 2 every year. The day encourages Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about people with autistic spectrum disorders including autism and Asperger syndrome throughout the world.

For an inside look at autism- a quote from local advocate and mother of an Autistic child-

” The best thing you can do besides get your child evaluated early, is to remember that they don’t need you to rescue them from their diagnosis. They need to see you treat yourself with compassion as you learn how to process what’s best for them and for you.” A.K. – Colorado Springs, CO
